What is Lost mode?
Using Lost Mode in Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
Lost Mode allows you to lock your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or Apple Watch so that other people cannot access your personal information. You can enable Lost Mode in Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
Lost Mode requires a device that meets the minimum system requirements listed in the Apple Support article System Requirements for iCloud:

To access Find My iPhone, go to icloud.com/find.
What happens when you use Lost Mode or lock a lost device?
You will receive a confirmation email to your Apple ID address.
You can create a message to indicate that the device has been lost and how to contact you.
When receiving messages or notifications or when an alert is triggered, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Apple Watch devices will not show an alert or play a sound. The device can still receive phone calls and FaceTime calls, however.
For an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch, you will see the device’s current location on the map, as well as any changes in location.
Activate Lost Mode or lock a device
- In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click on All Devices, then select the device on which you want to activate Lost or Lock Mode.
If you do not see the All Devices option, it means you have already selected one. Click on the current device name in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.
- Click on Lost Mode or Lock.
- Follow the instructions shown on the screen, keeping the following in mind:
Code: if your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch has a code, it is required to unlock the device. If not, you will be asked to create a new code. To lock a Mac, you must create a numeric code, even if a password has already been set on the Mac. This code is different from the password and is used only when you lock the Mac with Find My iPhone.
“In Family”: if you are trying to put a family member’s iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in Lost Mode and the device does not have a code set, you must enter their Apple ID password on this computer. If you want to lock a family member’s Mac, you must enter that person’s Apple ID password on the computer.
Change your contact information on a lost device
Once Lost Mode is enabled on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch, you can update the contact information.
In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click on All Devices, then select the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple Watch on which Lost Mode is enabled in the Devices list.
If you do not see the All Devices option, it means you have already selected one. Click on the current device name in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.
Click Lost Mode, edit the information, then click
Turn off Lost Mode on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch ( only if you have access to your ID Apple )
- In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click on All Devices, then select the device on which Lost Mode is active.
- Click on Lost Mode, then Stop Lost Mode, then click on Stop Lost Mode again.
You can also deactivate Lost Mode by entering the code on your device.
Note: If, when you set your device to Lost Mode, you suspended cards (credit or debit cards for Apple Pay, university badges, or transportation fast cards), you will be able to use them again when you turn Lost Mode off and access iCloud again.
Recover the code and unlock the Mac
- In Find My iPhone on iCloud.com, click on All Devices, then select the locked Mac.
If you do not see the All Devices option, it means you have already selected one. Click on the current device name in the center of the toolbar to access the Devices list, then select a new device.
- Click Unlock, then follow the on-screen instructions to verify your identity with the Apple ID password.
- Once you have the code, enter it into the Mac.
